Zipp wants to make sure that your ultra light seat post can hold your position, no matter what it is. That's why their SL Speed 0mm Offset Seatpost has a great clamp.
The clamp, make of carbon-fiber and held in place by two titanium bolts, is different than your average seat rail grabber. The cradle, the lower half of the clamp, is a single long piece, rather than made of two pieces that "bite" the rails. This design does two things. It offers a wider range of fore-aft adjustment. And it better distributes the clamping pressure on the rails. In an era of ultra-light alloy and carbon-fiber rails, this improves the durability of those rails.
In a similar way, Zipp built the shaft of this carbon-fiber post strong. The basic internal shaping is from their Service Course SL post, but with their knowledge of materials, resin, and fabrication, they were able to make the post super light as well as super-strong. This post can safely work for riders weighing up to 300lbs, and is tough enough to have been successfully ridden in the cobbled classics.
